Escape for real – Milton Keynes

Escape for real is based just outside Milton Keynes, in Newport Pagnall. It is based in a small unit in a business park in the edge of town. The staff were friendly, there is a small office/waiting room where they introduce the game. We were given a piece of laminated paper to read out the back story, while the member of staff did one final check of the room and then we went on our way.

The room is more high tech than many other rooms that I have done, with some great tasks and puzzles. Once you solved a puzzle it remotely unlocked something and you need to search for what was unlocked, which I liked. I was in a team of 6 and was glad that the room was well set up for larger groups, you were able to do puzzles at the same time so that everyone could be involved at all points. We were given a walker talkie so that we could ask for clues. Annoyingly the only clue we asked for is because we failed to check a cupboard thoroughly enough for a piece (they even emphasised this before we went in 🙄). There was no clock inside the room to give us an idea of how quickly we were working and they don’t give out clues in the first ten minutes. There was a good variety of puzzles within the room, we weren’t just looking for numbers and letters everywhere.

We escaped in 35 minutes (room record is about 26 minutes). We thought it was a good room and are looking forward to going back when they open their new room, hopefully December 2018.

In terms of difficulty I would say it was an average difficulty room, the room itself we felt was well executed. Before we started there was little in the way of atmosphere building and scene setting (not a fan of just been given paper with a backstory)

It was a good solid room, fun with some challenges. For an escape room I would give it a 3.5/5

Difficulty 3.5/5

Atmosphere 3/5

Variety 4/5
